Thank you for raising this important topic. At Contabo, we take sustainability seriously and are happy to share our approach:

That said, «green hosting» is an unregulated term. We'd encourage you to look beyond marketing claims and verify:

- Energy source (solar/wind/hydro, not just «RECs»)
- Location of generation vs. Consumption
- Additionality of offsets

Most «green» DCs run on grid mix + carbon credits. Real renewable: <30% of market. KnownHost claims 100% hydro but their Amsterdam DC pulls 40% gas peaker in summer peaks. Verified by grid operator data.

I tried the green hosting thing back in 2023 with this provider that had a leaf on their logo and everything and I was excited because my nephew told me about climate change and I had avocado toast that morning which is green too and my cat Mr whiskers sat on the keyboard when I was signing up which I thought was a sign but then I found out they were just buying offsets from some project in bangladesh and I couldnt get a straight answer about where the actual servers were and when I asked about PUE they sent me a picture of a puppy and I swear these people think we are stupid and nobody reads the fine print and I did I read all of it even the part about arbitration in delaware which makes no sense for a Spanish company and I still have the screenshots

KnownHost's 40% gas in summer, where's the third-party audit for that
