Benchmarked 15 providers' disk IO with fio, here are the honest numbers

Hey folks

Pinned a note: please keep discussion focused on methodology, not provider bashing. We have had good data shared here and I want it to stay useful. 🙂

OP, thanks for running these. Can you confirm fio parameters? Block size and runtime matter a lot for comparability.

Good numbers guys. Any leads on which of these let you resell storage? I am looking at margins on panels and some dont allow it in thier TOS. Contabo and InterServer look interesting from your chart. 🙏

Recieved a quote from one but it was vague on actual IOPS guarantee. Need hard numbers for my clients. I used https://github.com/masonr/yet-another-bench-script for the disk tests.

your margin is my opportunity

Appreciate the community effort here. What I will say is that enterprise-grade storage is not solely about raw IOPS. We are talking redundant feeds, N+1 controller architecture, and multi-pathing at the fabric layer. The SAN topology itself determines consistency under failure scenarios.

For true enterprise-grade requirements, I would direct you to our sales team. We do not publish raw fio figures because they do not capture the full resilience picture. Location is distributed across our edge footprint for latency optimization.

Pro tip: if you are benchmarking free tier, use a 7200-second runtime minimum. Oracle Cloud throttles burst after ~10 minutes and your numbers will look completely different at minute 15 vs minute 2.

Heads up: always test from a second instance in the same AD, then cross-AD, then internet. I have seen 3x variance between these.

My standard fio script:

  • 4k random read, 60s
  • 4k random write, 60s
  • 128k sequential read, 300s
  • Sync=1 for all

licensing is a suggestion

It is worth noting that value-added redistribution opportunities within the partner ecosystem are leveraged most effectively when synergy is achieved between upstream infrastructure and downstream client expectations. In this context, the storage metrics that have been published are being utilized to inform strategic positioning within the competitive landscape.

It is suggested that further synergy be leveraged through deeper integration with the partner ecosystem, thereby enhancing the value proposition that is being delivered.
