I compile kernels for fun and even I think some of you are overcomplicating this.
Just use Proxmox on a Hetzner dedicated box. Their AX42 is 64GB for 50 EUR in Helsinki. Install Proxmox, make templates, migrate templates to other Hetzner box if needed.
No provider API for your workloads. Only API call is "order another box" which even their web UI can do.
I have 128GB threadripper in Dubai colo for real work. Hetzner is just my EU presence.

Former Hetzner support here. We saw so many tickets from people who automated Proxmox API calls and then got confused when their cloud-init templates failed on new nodes.
You just moved the API problem one layer down. Proxmox API changes too, you just don't notice because you don't read their forum.
Also please stop opening tickets because your terraform provider timed out. We can't fix the API, we just bill for the box.

This is why I still put small clients on RackNerd despite the drama. $12/year for 1GB VPS, the API can break twice and I'm still profitable.
For the ones who need reliability I use Hetzner CPX11 at 4 EUR. Different tier, different expectation.
You cannot demand enterprise stability from budget API. The price tells you the SLA.

No. The answer is no. Build for migration from day one or accept the rewrite.
