What was the exact nginx version on both?

1.24.0 on both, compiled from the same source tarball. I should have said that upfront, sorry.

12% feels small for a real win. Variance?

I ran wrk for 5 minutes each, three runs, same time of day. The 12% was consistent across all three. Not variance.

I did not try iperf3 yet, kat_fold. That is the next step. I will post numbers when I have them.

The only visible difference: ARM box had a VirtIO driver that looked older

What provider? I have been burned by this before. Some shops buy ARM boxes from white-label vendors and never update the firmware path. The CPU is fine, everything around it is bargain bin.

I run x86 exclusively for my static sites now. Not because I love Intel, because I got tired of guessing which driver revision the ARM box shipped with. Detroit philosophy: predictable beats optimal.
