I already run Nextcloud in 2 VPS for 90 days already, one is ARM and one is x86. Same price tier, same provider (Hetzner — https://www.hetzner.com/cloud). I want to share which one is better can or not?
At first I think x86 will win because people say ARM is slow lah. But actually the ARM instance feel more snappy dong. Both using NVMe but I check already, the ARM box get better IOPS allocation. The x86 one maybe oversold already.
I sync 50GB photos, use Collabora, WebDAV to mobile. ARM use less RAM too, around 200MB difference. But x86 has better app compatibility, some community apps not build for ARM yet.
Anyone else already test this? What metrics I should check more? I only use htop and iostat, maybe need better tool lah.
I have make a test in the server with Nextcloud too. Actually I use x86 only, friend. How much people is using ARM here? I want to know or what.
My box in Vultr, x86, and the speed is okay. But you say ARM has better NVMe, this is interesting. I think the CPU benchmark is not everything, no? The disk make the difference in Nextcloud because many small files.
This is very good test friend. We make a test here too with OVHcloud ARM and is very good for the price 😂
I think the NVMe allocation ratio is the secret, not the CPU. My ARM box boot faster than my old x86 in RackNerd. Nextcloud cron jobs run smooth, no lag. You should test with Collabora more heavy documents, this is where ARM can surprise!
Gg op pwned the benchmark noobs. Boxes r boxes but nvme ratio yikes. X86 fanboys malding rn. I run nextcloud on arm box from InterServer and it slaps. Noob question: u using redis or nah?
