Another provider exits low-end market, consolidation worries?

Bro another one bites teh dust!!! Contabo is shutting down teh low-end line adn this is like teh 5th one tihs year!!!

Consolidation worries are REAL, where we gonna hostign our stuff when only teh big boys remain???

I had like 3 VPS in Contabo for my projects, now gotta migrate everything!!! Who else is scrambling right now???

This market is shrinking adn prices going UP!!! Not good!!!

Network not stable. I move to GreenCloudVPS before announcement.

Сервер in my country better now. No surprise provider die. Quality was bad.

People not learn. Cheap hostign always risk.

Provider grows fast, takes too many customer, infrastructure not scale.

What is survivor viability for InterServer and Time4VPS? They still accepting new signups?

Practical question: anyone using HostHatch for production? Need alternative with BGP session support.

Hardware perspective: Contabo was running Gen 9 Dell in two colos, 42U racks, roughly 18kW per site. I know because I bought their decommissioned pallets last year. Dual E5-2680v4, DDR4-2400, no NVMe backplanes.

Power draw alone explains exit. Those machines are 7 years old, inefficient, parts scarce. Cost per VM must have been brutal versus anyone on Epyc or newer Xeon.

Survivors with owned gear and modern silicon win. KnownHost and Leaseweb both run Amsterdam or newer. Numbers matter.

Oh dear, another one. Did you test your restore before the shutdown notice? 😊

Please remember 3-2-1 rule:

• 3 copies of your data
• 2 different media types
• 1 offsite

Checklist for migration panic:

• Backup current configs
• Verify backup integrity (did you test your restore?)
• Document DNS records
• Set TTL low before move

So many people skip testing. Did you test your restore? The shutdown date is your deadline, not your starting point.

Known issue with provider exits: workaround is maintaining active accounts at 3+ providers at all times. I have done this since 2019.

Contabo migration: known issue with export tools failing for accounts created before 2025. Workaround is manual rsync. I posted this workaround in ticket #28112-FM also.

As per my last update, your data is your responsibility per clause 14.3. :-|

The market contraction is not entirely negative. Unsustainable competitors are being eliminated, which improves overall service quality for remaining operators.

Consider: Contabo, RackNerd, and similar entities were running machines on negative margins with deprecated hardware. Their exit frees rack space and IP transit for providers with viable unit economics.

I have migrated six machines from failing hosts to KnownHost and CloudCone since January. The stability improvement is measurable. Downtime incidents dropped from 2.3 per month to zero.

Consolidation creates risk but also raises the floor. Choose providers with published ASNs, owned infrastructure, and demonstrated profitability.
