Contabo announced their acquisition by Horizon Hosting Group this morning. I have been with them for two years on a small VPS in Frankfurt. The email promises "no immediate changes to pricing or service" but we have all heard that before.
I am tracking my renewal date carefully. IMO the real risk is not the headline price but the gradual feature erosion. YMMV but I have seen this pattern twice now. Take it with a grain of salt.
I am considering whether to migrate proactively or wait and see. My usage is light. I could absorb a 30% increase but not 100%.
Has anyone compiled a list of historical acquisitions in this space with actual outcomes? I remember the Hetzner buyout in 2023 but lost track of what happened to existing customers.

I was a Hetzner customer for a couple of years and I liked the setup, but I got nervous when I kept seeing the same pattern in the industry — smaller providers get absorbed by big hosting corps, brands disappear, and the prices and support change. I moved my stuff before that could happen.
Horizon has debt service now. Your 3.99 plan becomes 5.99 becomes 7.99. /24 will cost you a kidney. IPv4 market doesn't care about your loyalty. Acquire customers, extract value, repeat. KnownHost next probably. Get out before the squeeze.
