Found a RackNerd E3-1270v6 on HostPeers clone for $15/mo, /24 included. Serial matched a Fremont PD report from March—seller claimed "corporate surplus." I checked RPKI/IRR first, nothing hijacked, but the serial was the red flag. Datacenter confirmed it was leased hardware, not stolen, but the "reseller" had no transfer rights. Contabo (https://contabo.com) gave me a legit 20% code after I reported the chain. Lesson: always verify asset tags against manufacturer databases, not just BGP cleanliness. IRR entries won't save you from physical theft rings.

RPKI clean means nothing when the box itself is hot. You ran GeorgeNmp's serial against what, the vendor support portal? Wild that RackNerd even entertained this.

Arch btw I always check serials through the ipmi firmware vendor tools because the manufacturer database is just a web ui that breaks on weekends and the ipmi tool you can script it so I have a shell script that curls the serial and checks against three sources plus I run it on arch btw because the aur has the vendor tools packaged properly unlike debian which has a three year old version that doesnt even support the new api endpoints so yeah check serials automatically or you end up with a box that gets reclaimed mid install
