Noticed something in the March deals thread. User "vps_hunter_99" posted three "deals" in one week, all CloudCone, all with tracking parameters in the URL. No disclosure. I checked — same pattern in January and February.

I run actual colo, so I know the margins. Affiliate payout on a $12/year VPS is maybe $3-6. Not life-changing money. But the thread had eight people thanking them for the "find," nobody knew.

Can we just... not? If you're getting paid, say so. Takes ten seconds. The hardware specs don't lie, but the enthusiasm might.

Yo @Carl thanks for calling this out. Hosting community needs to be clean.

Server deals should be real deals not comission traps. I found three more users doing same thing with Leaseweb last month. Will dm you!

In my jurisdiction, this would fall under unfair commercial practices. The GDPR angle is indirect — no personal data issue — but the principle of transparency applies.

  • I have compiled a list of seven users from the past six months who posted tracking links without disclosure.
  • I can share it privately.
  • The moderators should consider a rule addition.
