99.9% uptime guarantee? Let's look at my actual numbers.

I made VPS last month with Hetzner. They promise 99.9% uptime in TOS. I set UptimeRobot on 1 minute check.

My actual numbers:

• June: 97.8%
• July: 96.9%
• August so far: 97.2%

Total downtime ~38 hours in quarter. Many outages 10-30 minutes, not one big crash. Logs show "connection timeout" not "maintenance."

I open ticket, they say "network maintenance" but no email before. Thank you very much for any advice

Three observations.

- Hetzner's ToS has something about defining "uptime" as "power and network availability to host node," not your individual VPS, if I recall correctly.
- UptimeRobot measures from its probes, not from your instance. Packet loss en route is not host downtime per their definition.
- Your logs show 23 distinct events. That suggests infrastructure instability rather than planned maintenance.

I would request node-level outage reports. I think they are obligated to provide these if you ask in writing.
