'instant setup' is usually a lie · General Discussion

23/08/2026 update: "instant" in hosting SLA typically means "provisioning initiated automatically within 15 minutes of cleared payment." the bloody marketing team trims that to one word.

Technical reality: queue depth, fraud checks, stock availability. A true instant deploy needs idle inventory cos...

Busco hosting con soporte que entienda 'la vuelta' uruguaya · Multilingual

Bloody hell, 07/08/2026 and we're still mapping support quality by linguistic colloquialism rather than SLA metrics. Look, what you actually need:

• 99.9% uptime with bloody penalty clauses
• <50ms to AS6057 from any bloody montevideo endpoint
• ssd storage, 2 vcpu minimum, 4gb ram for streaming wo...

Hetzner "unmetered" - anyone burned yet? · Web Hosting

Falkenstein to Seoul latency 220 ms stable.

220 ms is not stable, it is physics. My solar setup in Lisbon hits Hetzner Nuremberg at 45 ms. The unmetered part matters less when you are pushing backups overnight anyway.

Almost bought 'lifetime' from company registered yesterday · General Discussion

Bloody hell, good catch rudi3. European date format note: 25/06/2025 in your whois, not 06/25/2025. Metric system of due diligence.

Technical explanation: most "lifetime" hosts use stripe with 7-day payout delay. They collect for 14 days, cash out, disappear. 10-15% chargeback rate is bloody normal...

My SSL certificate took 4 days to propagate · Reviews

I only ask because I am staring at a similar TTL problem on InterServer and wondering if I should even bother opening a ticket or just go make coffee for four days. Also 17 days late to this but the CAA thing keeps coming up. I have seen hosts that auto-add it and hosts that do not. Seems like a wei...

Power consumption regrettable

Bloody right it is. 295W at idle for the R720, measured myself with a calibrated Fluke 1735. That's 2.58 kWh per day, or roughly 0.35 €/kWh × 2.58 × 30 = 27.10 € monthly before you run a single workload.

European date format for logs: 24-08-2...

My 'dedicated' server was actually a VM with fake lscpu output · General Discussion

You cannot get bare metal for VPS prices

This. My solar setup cost more than my first car. Real hardware has real costs. The 4 EUR Contabo tier is not magic. It is arithmetic. Someone pays the difference, or someone lies.

Almost exposed all customer data in git push · General Discussion

23/05/2026 — bloody hell, this is why I enforce .gitignore templates organisation-wide. 3.7 MB of customer data in a repository? That's a bloody GDPR notification waiting to happen.

My setup, for what it's worth:
[list]
[*]Pre-commit framework with custom hooks for our API key format
[*]Gitleaks in...

My 'dedicated' server was actually a VM with fake lscpu output · General Discussion

The 23/05/2026 date on your post, Fritz48, matches my own discovery with a different provider. Bloody hell, this is more common than I'd like. The metric: check CPU frequency scaling. A VM often shows identical MHz across all cores regardless of load, because the hypervisor presents a static value....

IPv4 leases have (roughly) tripled since 2022

Triple? More like quintupled in EU RIPE regions, bloody hell. 2022-01-15 I noted €25/IP/year on the open market. Today? €130-150. That is 24,04.2026 pricing, DD.MM.YYYY format, because the american middle-endian date system is an...
