In Turkey the regulatory environment makes running your own resolver annoying. You need to register with BTK, your logs are subject to retention laws, and the root hints sometimes don't match what the government wants you to resolve. Managed DNS is not just easier, it's legally safer.

I know. I said I use them, not that I love them. For my backup NS it is acceptable. Primary is elsewhere.

In Turkey Hetzner billing is awkward. No TRY, card gets hit with conversion both ways. I use Contabo for cheap boxes instead, 3.99 EUR plan. NSD same config.

Istanbul has expensive import duties on server hardware, so we use Hetzner or OVH mostly, EU delivery. I looked at CloudCone once, the USD pricing with no lira option, plus SWIFT fee, made it silly. The "fair use" claim on SSD wear is interesting legally — in Turkey consumer law says "expected use"...

I worked at a provider in auckland back in the day and the overage rate was pure margin? Sweet as for the accountants though? Chur for posting this, most people don't look past the headline price?

Istanbul prices are volatile too, but in lira. I use Turkish providers when possible for local currency pricing, but for anything serious I need EU or US hosting.
Documentation problem is worse across borders. Turkish consumer protection doesn't reach to Delaware-registered companies.
