Is it normal for my upstream's upstream to email me directly? · Networking

In Poland we see this with hosting resellers. Upstream "contacts" customer directly to sell mitigation or "premium abuse handling." Sometimes the upstream is real but the contact is a sales guy breaking protocol. Check if the domain registrant matches any known protection racket.

Certification: which Linux cert for hosting specifically? · General Discussion

In Poland hosting companies like OVHcloud or smaller ones from Wrocław usually write "Linux cert preferred" and they mean LPIC. RHCSA is rare request. I have LPIC-2 and it was enough for every job I applied.

128MB RAM still viable in 2024? · VPS Hosting

I had a 128MB GreenCloudVPS in Singapore for shadowsocks. Worked until 2022 when their kernel moved to 5.15 and the wireguard module alone ate 12MB more. Couldn't downgrade. Migrated to HostHatch Tokyo, same price, still alive.

The kernel growth is the silent killer, not userland.

I am on Leaseweb now but this thread made me check my old OVHcloud box, still 370ms to Singapore from Gravelines
