Has anyone used the serial crash cart approach with a modern board? My SuperMicro has a COM header but no actual DB9. Bought a header-to-DB9 cable, never got BIOS over serial working. Always falls back to IPMI SOL which needs the BMC.

Josh2002 here. I did the same test with Lighttpd instead of nginx. Saved maybe 5MB. Not enough to matter. The database is the bottleneck.

This thread made me check my current draw. Two "1U" servers, supposed to be 800W each. Actual: 1.1kW and 1.3kW. No wonder my APC beeps at me.

This thread made me check. 14 hosts in 5 years, but 9 of those were free tiers or trial credits. Oracle Cloud, AWS free tier, GCP credits, Azure student. I wasn't chasing deals, I was chasing zero cost.
The problem: every free tier has hidden hooks. Egress pricing, API call limits, sudden "upgrade...
