Hi everyone, sorry total noob here

I need to set up a vpn for my 5 person dev team. We're spread across us, germany, brazil, india. I picked romania because I read they have no data retention laws? But then I found out its not that simple and now im confused.

Our budget is like $30/month total. We need wireguard, decent speeds, and I guess... legal protection? For our source code and client data. We're a small agency, nothing huge but we want to do things right.

Should I just go with switzerland? Its more expensive but I keep seeing it recommended. Sorry if this is a dumb question, still learning

Romania's "no retention" is for ISPs, not your rented server. You're the data controller once you provision the box. Switzerland adds cost but clearer framework for commercial data.

For $30 you get a Xeon E3 v3 at auction, 32GB RAM, ship to colo for $40/month. Too big for five people. VPS makes sense here. Budget $6/person, look at HostHatch Zurich or KnownHost Geneva. Both run older EPYC hardware, good power efficiency.

I am from Brazil, and I am telling you this jurisdiction thing is going to be a headache. My team we tried Romania too, that cheap price, but the support it was going to make us crazy. Switzerland we moved, double the price, but the sleep going to improve, I am telling you. The latency to Sao Paulo from Zurich is not bad actually, going to be around 190ms
