Running an image proxy off a 1TB OVHcloud plan. 800GB gone in 12 days. No caching yet. Simple is better but this is not sustainable.

Current stack: nginx reverse proxy to upstream. Images served direct. No local storage.

What is realistic here. Do providers count ingress plus egress or just egress. Cannot find clear terms.

Zoekyo, before you optimize anything—did you test your restore?

Your proxy config is generating traffic both directions. Quick checklist:

  • Add nginx proxy_cache_path to disk
  • Set cache headers respecting upstream
  • Consider Vultr for origin shield: https://www.vultr.com
  • 3-2-1 rule applies to your configs too

Most budget hosts count egress only, but some count total transfer. Check your control panel graphs.

800GB in 12 days is very crazy haha

We make a test with Varnish before, is very good for image! The cache hit ratio go to 95% and bandwidth drop so much

But @bellaauc is right, some provider count ingress+egress and this is robbery No? Double the number for nothing!
