Hey folks

Running a deliverability experiment since January 2025. Registered 20 new gTLDs, set up identical mailboxes on each, sent transactional emails to Gmail/Outlook/Yahoo/ProtonMail. Tracked spam folder placement monthly.

TLDs tested:.xyz,.top,.club,.online,.site,.dev,.app,.io,.cloud,.blog,.store,.live,.digital,.tech,.space,.network,.systems,.world,.info,.biz

Results after 12 months:

  • Heavily filtered:.xyz (87% spam),.top (91%),.club (64%)
  • Mixed:.online,.site,.store,.live (35-50%)
  • Clean pass:.dev,.app,.io,.cloud,.blog,.digital,.tech,.space,.network,.systems,.world,.info,.biz (<5%)

No warming, no reputation building. Raw TLD bias is real. Updating monthly.

23/07/2025 — worth noting the .xyz and .top were bloody flooded with phishing in 2022-2023. Reputation systems lag 18-24 months. Your 2022 .xyz registration predates the worst of it but filters don't distinguish age properly. Bloody annoying.

Metric: .xyz has 340x the abuse rate of .dev per SpamHaus data. Not surprising.

1. TLD reputation is one input in a multi-factor scoring system (SpamAssassin 3.4.6+, Rspamd 3.5+).
2. Domain age matters: filters weight 3+ year registrations higher.
3. IP reputation and SPF/DKIM/DMARC alignment outweigh TLD bias by factor of 4:1 in Gmail's 2024 pipeline.
4. Content analysis remains primary driver.

Practical recommendation: keep the .xyz, implement BIMI, monitor Google Postmaster Tools. Changing TLD for deliverability alone is usually unnecessary.

It's always DNS. Always.
