So I did the math for my 2TB need and I thought storage VPS would win because I hate egress fees right and I run Plex and some backup scripts and I need actual filesystem access. But then I looked at my access pattern and its like 90% write-once-read-never basically, and the other 10% is sequential reads for Plex which object storage handles fine. And the calculator said object storage wins by forty percent over three years even with the API costs. Now im sad because I wanted a big storage box to SSH into and feel powerful but numbers dont lie I guess
Peering. Your pattern: write-heavy, cold. Object wins. Cfg for Plex direct play = no transcode = no local FS needed. V4 only, v6 nice to have. If you were random read heavy, storage VPS RT better.
