The drift happens faster than anyone admits. I have seen teams get close, but it requires discipline most orgs don't have. My current setup: Windows Server 2022 staging, Windows Server 2022 production, same patch level, same IIS configurations exported to XML and version-controlled. Still found drift last month. One registry key. One. Broke a deployment. To be fair, containerization seems to help Linux shops more. I haven't found the Windows equivalent that doesn't involve more licensing headaches than it's worth. What specific configuration drift are you fighting?
Have you tried restarting it?
