Six months on Hetzner, unknown Romanian host

I want share my experience with Hetzner, romanian provider I have find since 2 days of search lol. Not famous, no thread here, very mysterious https://www.hetzner.com

I have make test since 6 months:

  • Price: €3.50 for 2CPU/4GB/50GB SSD
  • Network: 1Gbps, real speedtest 940/910
  • Uptime: 99.97% (one reboot for kernel, announced)
  • Support ticket: answered in 4 hours

But support English is... strange. "The server is have good day" and "we make restart now please" lol. I think Google Translate, but they are honest and fix problem fast.

Location is real Bucharest, not fake. I check IP geolocation and traceroute. Very stable for my Nextcloud.

It is possible to do that price in other place? I don't think so mdr. But I want know if someone else have try this provider??

Pro tip: before trusting any "unknown" provider, verify the AS path yourself.

1. Check RIPE for their ASN registration date
2. Run bgp.tools lookup on their IP space
3. Look for upstream diversity (single upstream = single point of failure)

Heads up: Hetzner's ASN was registered 2019, which is reasonably established. But their only upstream is a Romanian ISP with no international peerings listed. This explains good local speed, potential issues for non-EU visitors.

I ran MTR from my Oracle free tier instances:

Hetzner's responses may be broken, but they're fast and they fix things. I'd rather have "the server is have good day" and a working server than perfect grammar and a 48-hour wait. I run Windows Server 2022 on my VPS instances, and I'd be curious if their templates are properly licensed or... less properly arranged. The Romanian market has a reputation.

Have you tried restarting it?
