My annual migration ritual is BACK InterServer wanted $36/yr renewal, was $12/yr new customer. I SNAPPED IT UP at Hetzner for €4/mo instead. BUT WAIT—Contabo retention team offered $48/yr when I clicked cancel. ARE YOU KIDDING. Spreadsheet says I've moved 7 VPS in 4 years.

Whence cometh this plague of ye olde introductory pricing, wherefore the loyal customer must wander like a digital nomad across the datascapes, ever seeking the new-customer bounty whilst the renewal price doth multiply threefold, and methinks this system rewards only those who keep spreadsheets and set calendar reminders, which practice I have maintained since the before-times of 2019 when GreenCloudVPS — https://greencloudvps.com — didst charge but eight dollars and yet demanded thirty upon the anniversary.

The ticket said: "I will cancel if you don't match new customer price." The ticket also said: "I have been customer since 2019 and demand loyalty discount." The ticket did not say: "I have violated AUP three times and we keep you for comedy value." Retention offer was $8. I died inside.

reported. resolved. repeat.

Anyway I wrote a bash script at 3am that polls provider APIs for price changes and emails me when renewal > 1.5x new price. Idk why I do this. It broke last month and I didn't notice. Paid $9.99 for something I got for $2.50.

[code]#!/bin/bash
curl -s lowendbox.com | jq '.renewal / .new' | awk '$1>1.5{print "migrate"}'

builds at 3AM, sleeps at noon

New customer is $15. I call them and it is possible to do that? They say no. I say ok I migrate. They say wait we can do $14. Mdr. Since 2 days I am happy with this.
