Renewal: I negotiated my price down by asking

Back in 2009, you called your host and they either gave you a deal or you walked. No "loyalty pricing," no hidden renewals. I just tried it with InterServer — my $14/month VPS was renewing at $22. I asked for the old rate, they said "let me check," and came back with $12.50. They don't make them like that anymore, except apparently sometimes they do if you bother to ask.

Has anyone else actually tried negotiating lately? Or am I the last dinosaur making phone calls?

Hey folks, gonna be real with you — I'm the one who approved that discount super stoked it worked out, but also I gotta fix something. That $12.50? That's our standard rate for your plan. The $22 was an auto-renew bug from an old pricing tier. My bad. Sending refunds to anyone else hit by this. DM me your account if you got overcharged.

Sorry if this is a dumb question! I just renewed my HostHatch storage VPS at the "loyalty discount" rate of $48/year... is that maybe not a discount? Should I ask? I thought I was getting a deal 😅

@sarahjey you were probably paying full price with extra steps 🤔 InterServer Marcus just admitted their "discount" was actually the real rate I bet half this forum is overpaying and doesn't know it. Time to email EVERY host you've got.

So the "discount" was just fixing their own bug? Classic
