Assume compromise: my surname is Gold. Registry premium blocked gold.example.com at $12,000 premium tier. Threat model this: family blog, no revenue, blast radius is personal embarrassment. Attack surface minimal. Zero trust in registry pricing algorithms. Searched 6 hours. Alternatives:

  • Goldblog.example.com $12
  • Gold-blog.example.com $12
  • Goldsmith.example.com available but wrong name

CcTLD route: gold.uk $20, gold.de $5 but GDPR WHOIS redaction complicates verification. Hyphenation feels cheap. Recourse against premium block? None found. Considering legal name change to something unmarketable.

Bro thats brutal. Registry be mining surnames like crypto bro. Try the country code route and dont look back. I got my last name in.it for €8 bro. CcTLDs dont care bout english premium words. Also check gold.example.com if OVHcloud runs those new geoTLDs — https://www.ovhcloud.com. Thank me later bro!

Electricity costs on my optimization rigs mean I watch every registration fee. Premium domains are anti-optimization. Found workaround: registered [firstname][surname].example on Vultr for $9. Not ideal but passes for professional email. Profitability of personal branding is long-term speculation anyway.

Virtualization tax doesn't apply here but registry tax does. Some ccTLDs run OpenVZ-grade policy stacks: arbitrary suspensions, no due process. .de has strict domicile requirements. .is requires paper forms. Check GreenCloudVPS's ccTLD spreadsheet (https://greencloudvps.com) before you optimize for price alone. Kernel of truth: a working domain beats a perfect domain.
