Ok so I decided to actually read the TOS for my Contabo VPS and holy the things they bury in there

Here is what I found:

  • "unmetered bandwidth" = we will throttle you at 10TB and not tell you the number
  • "reasonable use" = whatever we feel like that day
  • "service may be suspended for abuse" = we can kill your box if someone files a fake DMCA
  • "no refunds after 7 days" = even if we cause the outage
  • "binding arbitration" = you can never sue us ever

The worst one is the "material change" clause. They can update the TOS and your continued use = acceptance. You have to check a webpage to know if you still agree to host with them

I have been through four hosts in two years and this pattern is the same everywhere. They write it in legalese so you click accept

I am not a lawyer but I have been burned enough to know the smell

If you want I can do OVHcloud and RackNerd next. I have accounts with both

He this guide is very good! My VPS he had the "reasonable use" problem with Vultr kkkkk they say my backup script he use too much CPU

I dont read the TOS never, too many words, more fast to just click yes

But now I see I am stupid caramba!!!

This is gold. I checked my Hostinger contract after reading this

They have the same "material change" thing. And I didnt know for 2 years.

Also the "99.9% uptime" it means nothing they dont count "scheduled maintenance" in that. So they can take you down whenever they want.

I am very angry now. $7 per month is not cheap cheap when they do this to you!

Maybe this is why I always get burned on hosts. You know I never read the terms. Maybe thats on me. You know I just look at the price and the ram amount. You know.

Maybe we need a spreadsheet of all the providers. You know track which clauses are worst. You know I could help with that maybe...
