I thought I was cheap but I just counted and I am at like $47/month across 5 boxes. My minecraft box at Contabo — https://contabo.com — valheim lag fixer at OVHcloud, plus a few others for gg wp stuff. Thought I was saving money vs Realms but maybe not. What you all actually spending? Be honest, include the tiny ones you forgot about.
I remember when one machine did everything. Now you rent ten of someone else's computers. I spend maybe twelve dollars. But I have three. Always another small one for this or that. It adds up while you are not watching...
I am at $31/month and that is after aggressively consolidating. Why pay for managed services when you can self-host it, but then you need a reverse proxy box, and a docker compose box for the heavy stuff, and a monitoring box because you are now the SRE. I started with one $3 instance and now I have five. The hidden cost is not the money, it is the time you spend maintaining reverse proxies at 2am.
