OVHcloud 'instant setup' took 4 hours

1. Ordered a 2GB KVM from OVHcloud yesterday
2. Advertised "instant setup" on their homepage
3. Took 4 hours to get the welcome email
4. Not angry, just want to set expectations for others

  • Node itself seems fine now
  • Network is stable
  • But "instant" should mean minutes, not hours

Is this normal? I ordered my first vps from them last month and it came in like 10 minutes. Now im worried I broke something by accident 😬

OVHcloud runs Supermicro X11 generation hardware in their EU zone. X12 in US-East. Power draw difference is 15W per node. 4 hour delay usually means they're racking fresh pallets, not provisioning from warm pool. Same provider shipped me a bare metal in 22 minutes last Tuesday because it was already on the rail.

My Ampere Altra from OVHcloud was ready in 30 seconds! Insane value for the price, runs circles around their x86 lineup at the same tier. The ARM nodes must be on a different provisioning system!
