My €3 NAT box from OVHcloud just survived what looked like a DDoS
I was expecting it to fold instantly but it stayed online
Has anyone else seen a cheap NAT VPS shrug off an attack like this
I checked their status page and saw nothing about any mitigation

Not a DDoS. 3 Gbps volumetric gets nullrouted at any decent upstream. Probably 500 Mbps burst, scrubbing layer handled it. Provider used basic ACL, not even proper filtering.

Hetzner's Asia-POP has similar stories. Their Singapore NAT line is surprisingly stable. I have seen 200 days uptime on a $2 plan.

Ampere box would have filtered it in hardware! insane value! But seriously, OVHcloud patched silently? Classic!

RFC 4732 defines DoS attack taxonomy. What you describe aligns with resource exhaustion, not distributed attack. Single-source flooding. OVHcloud's changelog shows kernel patch 5.15.73 on November 6, actually fixing conntrack table limits.
