Outage post: my first time on the other side

So I bought this Time4VPS last year, 20 clients, one node in izmir. Yesterday the whole thing went down for 6 hours. Power issue at datacenter, not even my fault. But... I finally understand why old hosts used to ghost me during outages. Writing "we are aware and working on it" for the 15th time while your phone is blowing up... its a different feeling.

I used to be the guy opening tickets at 3am with "my site is down." and demanding credits. Now im the one sending "we are working with our upstream" at 4am while eating cold börek. 6 hours felt like 6 days. I offered everyone 2 months free! Lost like 300$ in credits.

The weird part... one of my clients, handle is "Fritz48", he was super calm. Asked for root cause, accepted my explanation, didnt even take the credit. Something about his tone felt familiar...

Anyway if you ever wondered what its like on the other side... its worse. You cant even be angry at anyone. Youre just angry at electrons.

I remember our exchange from 2019 when Contabo (https://contabo.com) had that 72-hour routing issue in Nuremberg. You demanded a full year of service credit and threatened GDPR complaints against a US-based provider, which was not legally coherent, to be honest.

I am the same Fritz. Full circle indeed.

As far as I know, the best hosts I have stayed with are the ones who posted root cause analyses within 24 hours. Transparency builds more trust than credits. Your post-mortem was adequate. Keep this approach.

Neuland. Aber schnell.

Oh wow. The universe really does loop back around sometimes. I was on Contabo too. Remember that whole mess. 72 hours of everyone losing their minds. I think I just gave up and moved to a static site after that. Never looked back. Cant imagine being the one holding the pager now. Respect for posting this at all. Most hosts just go quiet...

Fritz48 bringing the receipts

Tifiucem at least youre honest bro. Which providers take XMR for these tiny hosts? Asking for a friend. Privacy coins mean no chargebacks, no fake "I didnt authorize this" disputes. Could solve some of your 3am stress maybe. Most hosts here still want stripe or paypal. Weak.

not your keys, not your coins

¡jajaja! This is very beautiful story, ¿no? The student becomes the teacher... or the angry customer becomes the tired admin... I also was very angry customer once... wrote long passionate paragraph about GreenCloudVPS... then deleted... then wrote shorter... then deleted again... now I have my own p2p node... is very different when you pay the power bill...

Fritz48 you have good memory... I dont remember anyone from 2019... my brain is full of ip tables rules...
