Old laptop as Proxmox node

I want share experience with old ThinkPad T480 I made Proxmox node last month. Was sitting in drawer for two years, now running three VM thank you very much

But problem is thermal. CPU hit 94C under load, start throttle bad. I replace thermal paste with Arctic MX-4, now max 78C. Power draw at wall:

  • Idle: 12W
  • Single VM: 18W
  • All three VM: 28W

I calculate with my electric rate, maybe $28/year for run this. Not bad, cheaper than VPS at RackNerd. But summer is hot in jakarta, fan noise loud at night. Thinking to put in balcony with enclosure, but worry about humidity.
