Network diagrams are just cope for not understanding your config. You spend hours making pretty boxes in draw.io, the colors, the arrows, and for what? When the server break at 3am you ssh in and grep like everyone else.

I run 40 containers on my personal hosting, no diagram, no problem. I know where every packet goes because I built it. Memory is faster than Confluence.

If you need picture to understand your own network, maybe you do not understand it, no?

Does complexity until it breaks you.

Diagram or not, when you inherit a setup at 2am you'll wish someone left breadcrumbs. /24 will cost you a kidney, your time costs more.

I have opinion sir
1. Diagram very much for show boss only
2. Real fix is good naming convention very much
3. I have 25 VPS, no diagram, no lice, very happy very much
4. But one time I forget why port 8849 open, big pwoblem very much
5. Now I have small text file only, not pretty picture very much

Dear sir/madam,

With due respect, I beg to differ. In my professional capacity only, I maintain diagrams for compliance audits itself. The auditors require visual documentation itself.

Kindly note that "cope" is itself a strong term. Many engineers use diagrams for communication to non-technical stakeholders only, not for their own understanding itself.

For what it's worth, I would request you to reconsider your stance for enterprise environments itself.

Insane value take! But also wrong!

I diagram my Ampere clusters because the topology MATTERS! NUMA nodes, NIC placement, which chiplet talks to which DIMM! You can't grep your way out of a memory channel bottleneck!

Runs circles around trying to debug from bash when you have 64 cores and 4 sockets! Exclamation marks!
