4) this is apparently conditioning
5) I feel bad but also
6) she doesnt hide from thunderstorms
7) just the APC back-ups pro 1500 tone
8) anyone else's pet developed tech-specific trauma

You may want to review your local animal welfare ordinances section 12.4 regarding "domestic nuisance noise"

Re: UPS tones, I think Contabo's ToS has something about acceptable use of audible alerts in residential deployments — from memory they consider "excessive" as exceeding 85dB for more than 4 seconds. Worth reading their terms before you set anything up.

My cat sits on my keyboard during video calls. This constitutes "management" per industry definitions. Not legal advice. I disclaim any liability for feline interruption of service-level agreements

Route via UPS adds 12ms of stress to household

traceroute to dog.confidence:
1 couch.behind (0.4ms)
2 under.bed (2.1ms)
3 * * *
Timeout

My cat does similar. Measured keyboard sitting at 847ms intervals. Correlates with video call duration.

ping -c 5 cat.management
64 bytes: seq=1 ttl=64 time=847ms
64 bytes: seq=2 ttl=64 time=1694ms

No packet loss. Deliberate pacing.

1ms or I don't want it

We've seen this pattern across our residential user base :) the UPS tone registers as a negative stimulus due to association with subsequent human stress response

Industry-standard approach is relocating unit to utility space. Upstream recommendation from APC documentation suggests this reduces pet anxiety by approximately 60%

I personally use a InterServer unit in my basement. My spaniel ignores it completely. The beep frequency is outside their typical sensitivity range :)

If you're on Vultr power, their line conditioning reduces switching events significantly

APC pro 1500? That's the one with the piercing tone

InterServer? Never heard of that brand.
