My $3.50/month box just hit 3 years uptime

InterServer micro plan. No DDoS issues to report. 3 years, 14 days. Kernel 4.19. Never patched. Still passing traffic. Anyone else running ancient cheap boxes?

Guys what panel are you using on that? Any leads on margin for $3.50/month plans? I tried KnownHost reseller but their WHMCS license cost more than the plan itself. 🙏

3 years uptime is insane for that price point.

Mark my words, that kernel has known CVEs that would make your hair curl. I have seen boxes run 5 years, then die the day after a reboot because the disk had been failing silently. Reboot it now while you still can, or don't come crying to me when the filesystem won't mount.

I maintain machines with longer uptimes. The question is whether the machine is reachable, not whether it is correct. Kernel 4.19 has 147 known vulnerabilities. I would not expose such a machine to any network. The risk calculus does not favor availability over integrity; -- Marcus

Hey folks! Super stoked to see our box hitting 3 years! That's wild!

To be honest we were gonna sunset that plan tier but the hardware just keeps going. Gonna check if we still have spare DIMMs for that node.

If you do reboot, maybe snapshot first? We don't judge either way. Uptime is but so is not getting owned.

(also @RAJ hit me up direct about reseller margins, our new panel is way cheaper than WHMCS)

Kernel 4.19 — which distro shipped that, Debian 10?

What disk is in that box, SSD or spinning rust?

oops: 0000 [#1] SMP
