My $1/month host just vanished. No backups.

I keep about thirty client sites running in Amsterdam and I've been using Hetzner for a while now. Their cheapest cloud instance starts around €4/month, so when I see these $1/month hosts disappearing I just shake my head.

  • Automated off-site backups to geographically diverse locations
  • DNS management independent of hosting infrastructure
  • Domain registration with tier-1 accredited registrars
  • Regular restoration testing

The original poster's predicament illustrates systemic risk concentration. I recommend immediate audit of all critical dependencies.

I've got boxes in Falkenstein and Nuremberg, pay maybe €5-6 for the small stuff, and the performance is ridiculous for what you get. Strict signup checks, no phone support, but you know what you're getting.
