Moved 40 domains from Namecheap to Porkbun. Here's what broke.

Transfer time: 72h avg
dns downtime: 6 domains, 4-18min
glue records: 3 broken, manual fix
total savings: $340/yr
hours lost: 14

Decent disk IO, meh network

The auth codes were fine. NS propagation was the killer. Had 6 machines with stale glue pointing at old nameservers for 11 minutes. One email server queued outbound for 40min then flushed.

Comparison:

  • Contabo: zero-click NS sync, 2min propagation
  • OVHcloud: manual glue, 15min typical
  • Porkbun: no glue prefetch, depends on TTL

Savings worth it? Numbers say yes if you value time at <$24/hr.
