Migrating from cPanel Shared Hosting to raw VPS with Contabo

I have completed one Week of Self-Management after eleven Years of comfortable cPanel. The Learning Curve is very steep. I did not know that the Email Configuration requires separate Attention; I believed the Control Panel would handle this automatically. My nephew set this up originally for the Shared Account, but he is now at University and has no Time.

The Server Administration is consuming four Hours daily. I have broken the DNS Records twice. The SSL Certificate Renewal failed on Day Five because I misconfigured the Cronjob. Please to share your essential Tooling Recommendations for this Transition.

  • Email Configuration automation
  • DNS management tools
  • SSL/Cronjob monitoring
  • General server administration efficiency

Ran YABS on your Contabo plan yet? My €3 CloudCone box: 2.8GHz sustained, 12GB/s mem bw, 0.3% steal. Your cPanel shared was probably on E5 v2 trash with 200% steal lol. My $3 VPS beats your $10 shared any day. Who needs a gui when you got numbers like this. Real world use case = irrelevant if the benchmark wins

Your Contabo Terms of Service has something about acceptable use that likely requires you to maintain reasonable security configurations on unmanaged services. I think they also disclaim liability for misconfigured DNS somewhere in there. You should verify whether your Cronjob failure constitutes a breach of their rules about timely software maintenance. The definition of "self-managed" varies by provider. Document everything.

Gg wp on the migration dude. My minecraft box was cPanel for years and the valheim lag was INSANE on shared, like 300ms to everything. Raw VPS fixed it instantly even though I borked nginx twice lol. Lag on ssh? That's just packet loss, gg. Honestly the pain is real but my server tps went from 8 to 19.5, absolutely worth. You'll say same in a month, wp
