Breaking: KnownHost sent notice this morning that communities 64500:80 through 64500:99 (traffic engineering, regional prepends, blackhole) will cease being honored after September 1, 2025. That's 97 days.
We use 64500:85 (prepend 3x in EU-West) and 64500:91 (blackhole trigger) across 12 prefixes in IRR and RPKI. The blackhole community is critical—we participate in a shared threat response with two other networks.
Immediate concerns:
- No replacement communities announced yet. NOC says "details forthcoming."
- Our RTBH integration with HostHatch and Leaseweb depends on this.
- RPKI ROAs are valid but blackhole path is separate signaling.
- Transit pricing is renegotiated in November; this affects leverage.
If anyone has inside word on whether 64500:100+ range will survive, or if they're moving to large communities, please share. The notice was two paragraphs. No migration guide.
