Looking for honest opinions on ARM servers for general use

Right then, been eyeing ARM boxes for a bit. Hostinger's got some dirt-cheap Ampere stuff but I'm proper nervous about compatibility. Heard OVHcloud's ARM offering can't even run Docker without hacks. Anyone actually living this dream, or is it still a nightmare for general hosting? Not after crypto mining rigs, just honest web hosting and the odd database. Cheers lads. 🦡

Ahh... the young people and their cloud nonsense... ARM this, ARM that... back in my day we worried if the power supply would catch fire... but I digress... I ran a KnownHost ARM instance for eighteen months... three dot three... not for production mind you... just poking around... compatibility was... spotty... some things compiled fine... others wanted to argue...

$/GB/RAM breakdown: ARM wins by 40% easy. BUT. Compatibility spreadsheet I keep:

  • Docker: yes (check your base images tho 😂)
  • Postgres: yes
  • Redis: yes
  • Some random PHP extensions: NOPE
  • Elixir builds: pain

Chaotic truth: it's fine if you control the stack, nightmare if customers bring their own garbage.
