I am building a 40TB NAS for my home and I was eating cereal this morning when the power went out for like three seconds and my cat Mr. whiskers jumped off the counter and the weather was all cloudy and I thought about data loss and I need to decide between hardware RAID or ZFS and I have been reading forums for six hours and my neighbor's dog was barking the whole time and I have 64GB ECC RAM already because I bought it used from a guy who said it came from a dental office server and I want to store family photos and also Linux ISOs and maybe some VMs and I heard ZFS needs lots of RAM but hardware RAID has write holes or something and I dont understand bit rot is that even real and my sister said just use synology but I want to build it myself and I also have three old SAS controllers lying around from when I tried to build a render farm in 2019 and the render farm failed because the electricity bill was too high and my landlord complained so now I need to know what do I pick and please read all of this before replying because I always get people who only read half and then ask questions I already answered and it makes me so mad
