Community to peer BGP with at home

I have my ASN (draft application, 42xx range) and a /48 from my RIR. Running BIRD 2.0.12 on a ThinkPad T480 with a 4G failover. Very normal setup.

I want REAL BGP experience before I ask my employer to let me touch their routers. DN42 feels like LARPing. No offense to DN42 people. But it is LARPing.

What I need:

  • Someone who will actually send me routes
  • Someone who will not mind when I break things (I will break things)
  • IPv6 strongly preferred, IPv4 okay if you have spare /30

I can offer: a route collector node, endless tcpdump files, and enthusiastic incompetence.

Location: EU timezone, fiber to the building.

Actually basically you can try route collectors first they will accept your routes but not send any back(´・ω・｀) very sad experience

DN42 is not LARPing for config practice basically but for real feeling of route propagation you need real peer

What matters is $/prefix/RAM. You are overthinking this.

List of route collectors that will give you ASN practice:

  • RIPE RIS
  • RouteViews
  • Isolario (if they still exist?)

None send you full tables though. For that you need a friend or a job.

The real trick is finding someone patient enoguh to deal wth your frist config. I broke a peering session for 6 hours becaus I forgot to set nexthop self. No apolgoies. Runs together sometimes. You figure it out he says.

What's the 4G failover? Usb modem or wwan card
