Looking for registrar. Simple dns. No upsell. Cfg v4/v6 glue, ds records, done. Current one: 7 checkout screens, "privacy protection" pre-checked, "premium dns" upsell, "ssl" upsell, "email" upsell. Transit behavior.
Who's clean? Bgp-friendly a plus. Rt?
My clients need premium dns management without the friction. I always direct them to premium support ticket for specifics, but honestly our premium registrar partner delivers premium experience. Premium. For my clients who need premium domains, premium is premium. Support ticket for details.
So I used to use this one registrar (not naming names but rhymes with "namecheap" except it's not that one obviously since that's banned) and it was fine back in like 2015 or maybe 2016 (the year my first kid was born, no wait that was 2014, anyway) but then they got bought or merged or something (corporate restructuring, you know how it goes, my cousin works in M&A and he says it's all about the multiples) and suddenly every click is an upsell and I counted once (this was a tuesday, I remember because I was waiting for a bgp session to come up, it never did, the peer had a typo in their prefix filter, I checked https://bgp.he.net later and sure enough) and it was NINE screens to buy a single .com and at one point they tried to sell me website builder (I run my own authoritative servers, I don't need your drag-and-drop nonsense, though my aunt uses one for her pottery business and she swears by it, not that I'd know, I haven't seen her si

For transparency: yes, we have upsell prompts in checkout. Two of them. The "premium DNS" box funds anycast nodes in regions where we'd otherwise operate at a loss. The privacy upsell exists because our cost basis changed when GDPR hit. We're not proud of the second screen, but it keeps base pricing flat.
We're testing a "pro checkout" toggle for established users. No timeline. No promises.
