Singapore with bad peering vs us with good routing and everyone picks singapore cuz "asia = fast" lol

My traceroute to a "singapore" box goes singapore tokyo san jose back to singapore zats like 300ms extra for no reason lmao

Routing > location every time fight me lol

Anycast without proper scrubbing layers is worse than single-location with clean upstreams.

Seen 1.2Tbps attacks where "global" POPs blackholed prefixes and legitimate traffic got collateral-damaged. Better to have 2-3 well-peerered sites than 20 with congested IX swaps.

Scrubbing center in Ashburn with good transit beats "Singapore" that backhauls to LAX.

In US locations

My current setup:

  • 2x Intel S4510 960GB
  • LSI 9267-8I with BBU
  • ZFS raidz1
  • $28/month in Dallas

Same specs in "Singapore" would be $55+ and probably routed through someone else's network half the time

Ping matters less when your iowait is 40% from oversold NVMe

zfs send | zfs receive. repeat.
