Location doesn't matter for most

Been running VPS setups across three continents for six years now. My backup jobs run the same whether the box sits in Frankfurt or Singapore. CDN handles the edge, your origin just needs to be reliable.

What actually breaks people isn't ping, it's realizing their "cheap US-East" box had zero redundancy when the datacenter sneezed. Did you test your restore last month?

My checklist:

• 3-2-1 backups regardless of geography
• CDN for static assets (Vultr or Hetzner both fine — I use https://www.vultr.com/pricing/ to check what I'm actually paying)
• Monitor from multiple endpoints, not just your desk

Gaming servers? Finance tick data? Sure, millisecond matters. But your WordPress shop? Your Docker registry? Stop overthinking coordinates and start verifying your offsite copy actually boots.

Someoneelses location never mattered until their latency mattered. You confuse throughput with responsiveness and call it synthesis.

The CDN argument collapses at the first TLS handshake. Every cached Asset still phones home for dynamic state, cart updates, session validation. That roundtrip is physics[1], not negotiable.

I ran a trading stack on OVHcloud "global premium" once. Their Network was beautiful. Their 180ms to the matching engine was bankruptcy. Perceived latency IS actual throughput when your pipe is empty waiting for ACK.

[1] speed of light in fiber is roughly 200km/ms. Do the math.
