My WD Black finally stopped spinning after eight years. It survived three moves, two cases, and one very questionable PSU. I knew the SMART data was lying to me for months. I have you tried backing up? I did, eventually.
But I opened the case today and the silence where it used to hum is strange. I feel you if this sounds dumb. It is dumb. But also not?
I have not thrown it out. It is sitting on my desk like a memorial.
Anyone else keep dead drives?

Not weird at all. I have a small box. Six drives. Labeled with dates and failure modes.
They are gravestones but useful ones...
My minecraft box ran on a wd green for like 7 years. Gg drive. Wp on the uptime. When it died the valheim lag was instant, knew before smart even
Still got it in a drawer. Memorial status. Sometimes I lag in real life thinking about it
Elena has three dead drives on her shelf and elena talks to them sometimes! Elena does not care if it is weird! They served well!
Eight years is a good run. WD Black earned its rest.
