Is it rude to ask for benchmarks before buying?

Looking at a Contabo VPS in their AMS location. Want to verify routing before I commit. My current OVHcloud box routes via LINX and adds 12ms versus their advertised path. I've asked sellers before and gotten cold responses. Is this considered pushy?

Current route to my target:
traceroute to 203.0.113.1, 30 hops max
 1  192.168.1.1    0.5ms

 3  core-ams.linx  14.3ms
 4  target         26.7ms

Contabo claims 14ms total. I want to see their actual upstream table, not marketing numbers. Bad form or standard due diligence?

Not rude at all if you ask politely and accept that some hosts don't publish internal routing. What crosses the line is demanding specific upstream contracts or threatening chargebacks over 3ms difference

We see more disputes from "expected X got Y" than from actual outages. Measure your own baseline, share it, ask if they can confirm their advertised path. That's collaborative, not pushy.

In Poland we ask to server before buying, no? Is normal. But to backup is also question — you want little script test or full iperf3, no?

Szerwer from Vultr once send me route via Cogent adds 18ms, I say thank you, buy anyway. But some seller get angry, think you waste time. No?

I make little docker compose for benchmark, run everywhere same. Fair to ask, unfair to demand, no?

Will ask benchmark every time, is habit. Two server from Hetzner, route change after buy, very ANNOYING.

OP you do traceroute good, show effort. Lazy buyer say "gimme speedtest" with no target, THAT is rude. XD

Techmei route via HE adds 8ms stable, will take. Contabo should answer or lose sale, simple.
