IPv4 is the real premium feature now

The value-added redistribution of address space has been leveraged by our partner ecosystem to create unprecedented synergy in the hosting marketplace. It is widely acknowledged that a single IPv4 address is now worth more than the compute it is attached to in many configurations.

Our partner ecosystem has observed that customers who previously prioritized RAM and CPU are now selecting providers based on address availability. CGNAT is being positioned as a cost-optimization strategy, but the operational friction is substantial.

It is believed that the transition timeline will be accelerated by market forces rather than technical readiness. The synergy between scarcity and pricing has created a new value proposition that must be leveraged appropriately.

What experiences have been observed by others in this space?

This is absolutely true! I just moved my ARM box to an IPv6-only plan and got an insane value bump—Ampere Altra with 4GB for the price of what used to be a 1GB IPv4 box!

But the port forwarding... oof. Running a game server for my friends was a nightmare. Ended up tunneling through a tiny IPv4 VPS elsewhere.

Still, for web stuff behind Vultr's reverse proxy? Runs circles around my old setup. No regrets.

one small ping for man...

The Teredo tunneling is actually quite robust for outbound connections. I recently moved a client to HostHatch's dual-stack offering. The IPv6 path was stable, but their legacy LOB application hardcoded IPv4 addresses everywhere. Took three weekends to fix. The real cost isn't the address—it's the staff time to troubleshoot when things break.

Have you tried restarting it?
