Intel dropping support for old Xeon microcode

Intel dropping support for old Xeon microcode and this is going to hit a lot of homelabbers and small providers hard and I mean really hard and the notice says E5 v3 and v4 are going off the update train entirely and v5 gets one more quarter and then nothing and I was reading this on the Contabo status page of all places and they had the link and I followed it and sure enough the PDF is there and it says no more microcode updates after July 2025 and this matters because a lot of us are running E5-2680v4s and E5-2678v3s and those chips are still perfectly good for most workloads and the power draw is fine if you are not in California and the performance per watt is acceptable and the alternative is buying new DDR5 platforms and those are expensive and scarce and so the question becomes do you run without microcode updates or do you try to archive everything now and I have been downloadi

Contabo.com adds 12ms vs closest mirror. Still usable. I have v3 and v4 microcode archived at my own mirror, larsvault.example.com, route via Vultr adds 8ms. Will keep it up until 2027 minimum. Checking hash against intel release notes from 2019-2024.
