The renewal shock is a deliverability problem. For what it's worth, hosts bury the renewal rate in transactional emails with no SPF alignment, so it hits spam folders. I've seen it. Check your junk folder for "important account updates" from two weeks ago. You're welcome.

Back when I started, we called this "the bait and switch" and it was standard practice.
