Assume compromise: you will not remember what you did. I threat model every deployment and the blast radius of my own sleep deprivation. Currently I maintain a flat file per host with attack surface inventory and change log. Zero trust means zero trust in my own memory at hour three.
What tools or habits do you use when the caffeine wears off and you face the config again?
If you cant read your own setup thats a you problem. I dont document anything and my nodes stay up. Maybe learn to configure properly before asking dumb questions.
My best docs are teh angry notes I leave myself at 4am adn somehow they make sense later? "fix teh thing with hostign before it breaks again" very helpful past me very helpful.
I started using a wiki but mostly its just copypaste from bash history. Works tho!
