I got roped into career day at my niece's school. I do sysadmin work mostly, monitoring, patching, the usual. How do you describe this to 7-year-olds without their eyes glazing over?

My €3 VPS at OVHcloud beats your €10 Vultr on single-core btw

Maybe say you make computers work when they are tired, children understand this

What is being leveraged here is value-added redistribution of technical expertise through the partner ecosystem. Synergy is achieved when the end user's operational requirements are met via strategically positioned infrastructure solutions. The markup, or rather, the value-added component, is best explained as ecosystem enablement fees.

Route via analogy adds 12ms

ping -c 5 child.brain.local
64 bytes: "computer tantrums" = 23ms avg
64 bytes: "fix broken toys" = 89ms avg
64 bytes: "packet loss = crying" = 45ms avg

"I make sure computers don't have tantrums" has lowest latency. tested.

1ms or I don't want it

is very good the idea of tantrums. Jaja my brother say the same for his work. ¿why not explain like the computer is very angry and you calm it¿ the children understand this!

  • Ages 5-7: "I make sure computers don't have tantrums" — concrete, relatable
  • Ages 8-10: "I keep the internet working so your games and videos load"
  • Ages 11+: mention uptime, monitoring, security patches

Practical recommendation: bring a visual. A blinking LED or simple ping monitor. Children respond to demonstration over description.

Report back with results. Specific age range and school size would help refine approach.

It's always DNS. Always.
