After eighteen months on a KnownHost legacy node, I have completed migration to HostHatch. The improvement is substantial.

• Previous environment: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, HDD storage, 100 Mbps port
• New environment: 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, NVMe storage, 1 Gbps port
• Monthly cost: reduced by 40 percent
• Uptime since cutover: 99.97 percent (from memory I think their SLA has something about that)

Migration steps executed:

  • rsync of 340 GB data overnight
  • DNS TTL lowered to 300 seconds 48 hours prior
  • Final sync and cutover completed in 11 minutes downtime

The old server exhibited disk thrashing during peak hours and one unscheduled reboot monthly. I recall KnownHost's terms had something about legacy nodes not being eligible for hardware refresh guarantees.

No regrets. The scrap gods can have that chassis.

You went 4 to 8, that is not even worth mentioning. My home lab has 256 GB ECC. I migrated 12 VMs last month to a self-managed Ampere box, 128 GB, cost me less than your HostHatch plan.

What is the RAM allocation policy? Dedicated or ballooned? If they are overselling memory you will feel it under load.
